The police have recommended to the office of the director of prosecution the name of Rajeev Mohan as the new special public prosecutor in the case.

Mohan will replace I.U. Khan, who will be removed after a TV news channel Wednesday purportedly showed collusion between the prosecution and defence attorneys in seeking to bribe the sole witness to change his testimony.

The exposé, which NDTV said it did through a hidden camera in conjunction with the witness Sunil Kulkarni, was in the possession of the channel for two months before it decided to air it a day before a crucial hearing of the case.

The report began with prosecution counsel Khan informing Kulkarni that he had been dropped as prosecution witness in the case in which accused Sanjeev Nanda is alleged to have mowed down six people on Lodhi Road in central Delhi in the wee hours of Jan 10, 1999.
