New Delhi: A delegation of Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MUSIAD) from Turkey held a meeting with the Muslim Economic Forum India (MEFI) on 22nd August at India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) New Delhi and extended cooperation in promoting India-Turkey economic relations.
The delegation met with the intention to mobilize India’s similar business associations such as FICCI, ASSOCHAM,CII and others for participation in MUSIAD’s International Business Forum Congress and International Fair which is will be held in Istanbul during 26-28 November,2014.
During the meeting Dr. Tahir Beg, Chairman of MEFI highlighted deep historical and cultural relations between Turkey and India, and assured MEFI’s support and cooperation in promoting India-Turkey economic relations. He pointed out that under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey has established a high standard of rapid economic growth that ensured justice and inclusiveness.
Detailing Turkey’s growing economy, Dr. Beg said Turkey’s economy is fast integrating with the global economy by seeking membership with European Union, as well as enhancing trade and investment relations with countries of the East, including India. He informed that Indo-Turkish bilateral trade volume crossed the mark of US$7.5 billion in 2012, and is targeted to be doubled by 2015.
Dr.Beg, called for positive policy actions to handle the growing trade deficit of Turkey, viz a viz India. According to him, Turkey, for having trade deficit of US$5.8 billion with India, seems to be unwilling to sign Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India.
MEFI appealed to India’s business community to participate in the MUSIAD’s international Trade Fair, and International Business forum Congress in which ministers of trade, industry and finance from as many as 35 countries will give talk and business delegations from over 102 countries will participate.
The Turkish business delegation headed by Mr.Ibrahim Baris Cuvalci,( Director,Foreign Relations) was welcomed at India International Cultural Centre(IICC) by the prominent business and industry leaders including Mr.Sirajuddin Qureshi (also President of IICC), Mr.Ahmad Raza(Director,Bombay Mercantile Cooperative Bank), Mr.Ali Sherwani( Country Head, Figlo India), and prominent Islamic Scholor Dr.Javed Jamil, and many young businessmen and technocrats members of the Muslim Economic Forum India ( http://mefiworld.org/ ).
