New Delhi: Congress leader and former chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit Saturday averred that she never said that the BJP should form the government in the national capital.
“I never said BJP should form Delhi government. All I said was that if they have numbers, they should form the government,” she said.
Dikshit had ruffled feathers in the Congress by saying that the BJP should be given an opportunity to form the government in Delhi.
“In a democracy, elected governments are always good as they represent the people. If BJP has reached such a situation that it can form government, it is good for Delhi,” Dikshit had said.
Delhi is under president’s rule since Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as chief minister Feb 14 over the stalling of his pet anti-graft bill in the assembly.
Delhi’s Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung has sought President Pranab Mukherjee’s approval to invite the BJP to form the government in Delhi and said that he will ask it to prove its majority within a week.
