Chandigarh : Nearly 74.5 lakh women voters will be eligible to cast their vote in the October 15 assembly elections in Haryana, election department officials said here Monday.
Haryana has a total of over 1.62 crore voters.
The number of women voters has swelled from 59.67 lakh in the 2009 assembly polls to nearly 74.5 lakh this time. The voters’ list has been updated till July 31 this year.
In the 1967 state election, when voters of the then newly created Haryana voted for the first time, there were only over 20.57 lakh women electorates.
There was a drop in the number of women voters between 1996 (51.47 lakh) and 2000 (50.73 lakh) assembly elections.
Of the 90 assembly seats, Badshahpur in Gurgaon district has the maximum number of 147,730 women voters who can exercise their franchise while Narnaul has the least number of 59,187 female voters.
As regards male voters, Badshahpur is again on top (165,352) with Narnaul lagging at the bottom with just 67,418 voters.
Results of the elections will be declared Oct 19.
