Hyderabad : State-run National Thermal Power Corp (NTPC) Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here with the Andhra Pradesh government for developing a 1,000 MW solar park in the state.
“NTPC shall develop 1000 MW solar power project(s) at sites identified by the government of Andhra Pradesh on Build-Own-Operate basis,” a power ministry release said.
The project entails an outlay of Rs.7,000 crore.
The documents for transfer of land for the 4000 MW Pudipadaka Thermal Power Project near Visakhapatnam were also handed over to NTPC on the occasion of signing the MoU, the release added.
The Andhra Pradesh Government has already allotted 1,200 acres of land for the Pudipadaka UMPP, which entails an outlay of Rs. 20,000 crore.
The project is based on imported coal and requires about 19.8 million tonnes of coal per year.
Union Power Minister Piyush Goel, present on the occasion, said the project would be completed by 2019.
