Aligarh: The 197th birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the visionary educationist, was marked by several essay competitions here. The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) announced the results today and so was it declared for the competition held jointly by the Aligarh Movement monthly magazine, Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) Aligarh & Media Centre Aligarh.
The AMU announced the results of the ‘All India Essay Writing Competition’ on the topic ‘Sir Syed envisioned AMU to be Oxford of the East. How can we make it ‘Oxford of the World’—A World Class University?’
With a cash prize of Rs 25,000, Shah Muneeb Raza, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir who is attending Pondicherry University bagged the first prize while P Neela of Dhantwantri College of Nursing, Ranganur in Tamil Nadu, won Rs 15,000 cash is the first runner up. Jawahar Lal Nehru University’s Saqidalavi Panayathil was declared third with a prize of Rs 10,000, a release from the AMU said.
Cash prizes worth Rs 5, 000 were given to state toppers from colleges and universities all over the country. Chattisgarh’s Akshay Pillay, Andhra Pradesh’s Krati Khandelwal, Jammu and Kashmir’s Shubham Gupta, Uttar Pradesh’s Naazli Shah, Gujarat’s Pathan Sharifa Chand Ali Khan, Uttrakhand’s Samar Tyagi, Haryana’s Mohd Jamshed, Punjab’s Karan Tewari, Maharashtra’s Shaikh Shadab Alam Gulab, Kerala’s Ameer K, Karnataka’s Syed Zaheeruddin Bareed, Jharkhand’s Heena Parveen, Tamil Nadu’s Sankareshwari A, New Delhi’s Sumaiya Shams, Orrisa’s SK Juned Jafri, Rajasthan’s Priyanka Jain and Bihar’s Ajumit Kumar have been declared as the State toppers.
The winners will be awarded on 17th October at the Sir Syed Day Commemoration Meeting by the guest of honour Dr Abdulaziz Othman Al Altawajiri, Director General, Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, the release added.
Result for another on the spot ‘Sir Syed Essay Writing Competition 2014’ was held on ‘Does Sir Syed Ahmad Khan deserves a Bharat Ratna?’ was also declared. It was organized by Aligarh Movement monthly magazine, Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) Aligarh & Media Centre Aligarh and sponsored by Alisha Publications Private Limited at Arts Faculty at Aligarh Muslim University for school, college and university students.
The convener of the competition said, Jaziba Haroon Siddiqui, an MBA student from AMU, won the first prize in senior section while the second and the third prizes went to Roshni Kari, student of MA (Economics) at AMU and Mohd Shahid, a student of MA (Urdu) at the AMU, respectively, a release said.
In the junior section, first prize went to a student of 12th in AMU, Ms. Hafsa Rafi, and the second and third prize winners were Ms. Monazza Fatima of Class 9th in AMU and Miss Ambreen Ahmad of Class 11th in AMU respectively.
Shadaf Khanam of MA (History), Mr. Harish Kumar of PhD in Hindi in AMU, Ms. Daniya Shahid of Zakir Husain School, Aligarh, Mr. Nitin Kumar, Ms. Sadaf, Ms. Sadhna Singh, Ms. Neelofar Usmani, Mr. Afnan Ali Khan, Mr. Tehfijuddin and Manoj Kumar of APS were awarded the consolation prize, the release added.
