New Delhi : The Election Commission Monday issued a notice to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Oct 15 elections in the state.
Thackeray was charged with “promoting enmity between different classes of citizens of India on grounds of religion, race, caste or language”.
The poll panel said it issued the notice following an e-mail from senior officials in Mumbai Sunday.
The notice said that the EC was prima facie of the opinion that by making the statements, the MNS chief had violated the provisions of the model code of conduct and asked him to explain his stand by Oct 15.
