New Delhi : A Class 10 student of an elite southwest Delhi school was found dead Thursday inside the school premises, and the boy’s family said it strongly suspected foul play behind the death.
The incident comes close on the heels of the killing of two students – one in a Gurgaon school in the national capital region, and the other in a Madhya Pradesh school. The students were gunned down by their friends over trivial issues.
According to Delhi Police, Ankush Kondyal, 17, was admitted to the Fortis Hospital by authorities of Deep Public School located in plush Vasant Kunj area after the boy collapsed while playing basketball.
The police said Ankur was declared dead after an hour and his body has been sent to the Safdarjung Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
Ankush. after attending his mathematics practical, went to play with the Class 5 students in the playground as his classmates had already left to their homes.
Police sources said when the students playing with him became alarmed after he fell unconscious, Prakash Verma, son of school chairman Deep Verma, took him in his car to the hospital.
Ankush’s father Om Prakash, who lives in Mehrauli and works as supervisor in a public sector company, was subsequently informed. Ankush’s mother Raksha is a housewife and his sister Bindul is married.
Parladh Mishra, the boy’s uncle, said: “We are not taking it as a case of natural death and the boy may have died due to beating. We want the police to register a case and investigate the matter thoroughly.”
“No school official was present at the hospital. Doctors have advised us to conduct a post-mortem (examination) after few hours as then they will be able to know the exact reason,” Mishra added.
The police said they were investigating the death.
“We can’t say anything. Things would be cleared after the autopsy report. No case has been registered yet,” a Delhi Police spokesman said.
