Patna : Angry over the death of a young man during a police crackdown on gamblers, a mob Friday attacked police personnel and set their vehicles on fire in Bihar’s East Champaran district.
The mob also ransacked vehicles parked at the Hariya police station after the victim’s family found him dead, a police official said.
As hundreds protesting against the death surrounded the police station, the police personnel fled from the spot.
Reinforcements later brought the situation under control, East Champaran Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Singh said. “The situation is tense but under control,” he said.
