Mumbai : Having lost 288 points the previous day, a key Indian market index began on a firm note Friday and continued to be in the black for the morning session.
The 30 share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange opened at 20,702.94 (up 0.62 percent) and marked a high of 20,814.33 within a short while. It was trading at 20,733.69 (up 0.74 percent) mid-morning Friday.
The pack that led the rally included Reliance Petroleum, Idea Cellular, ICICI Bank and Infosys that has shown better performance in the third quarter than analysts had expected. ICICI Bank marked a sharp gain following news of the listing of subsidiaries to unlock the value for stakeholders.
S&P CNX Index Nifty of the National Stock Exchange opened at 6,166.65 with a high of 6,204.75 by mid-morning Friday.
