Hyderabad: In yet another case of innocent youth accused in blast case released free, a court here acquitted Zia Ul Haq – arrested in 2010 in connection with the 2006 Odeon theatre blast.
First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge on Tuesday, November 25, set free Haq, who was arrested by the Hyderbad police and the National Investigation Agency. The judgment was a result of failure on part of the public prosecutor to produce a valid proof against Haq. The NIA, in its charge sheet had claimed and alleged that Haq was an operative of a banned outfit and had further plans of waging a war against the country.

A crude explosion had taken place at the Odeon theatre at night in May 2006 in which two people were injured.
The allegations were proved wrong in the court, but not before the youth and his family – residents of Eidi Bazaar area – suffered for four years. Haq’s family has alleged that the NIA and also the Hyderabad police’s special investigation team (SIT) had “deliberately and falsely implicated him in the case owing to his religion.”
The hapless family members claimed that Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan (city corporator) helped them throughout the struggle. When Haq was set free, the same day, Tuesday, he and his family members met him and thanked for all the legal help provided by him and the MBT.
Khan has demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge and compensation for all those Muslim youth falsely arrested, especially during the tenure of AK Khan (IPS), the then Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad.
