Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Tuesday asked the government teachers to spend maximum time with their students instead of wasting time in the state secretariat trying to “manage” their transfers.
“It has been observed that most of the teachers are usually ‘managing’ their transfers at the cost of students’ studies,” the chief minister said at the inauguration of a block of the elementary education department.
The government is aware of the teachers’ problems and is endeavouring to solve them, but when the examinations are near, the teachers should concentrate on their students, he said here.
“We are there to accommodate them (teachers) but the welfare of the children is above all,” said Virbhadra Singh.
“It’s my lifetime experience that wherever we have opened schools in remote areas, a girl has been benefited the most,” he said, adding boys could still manage to study in schools far from their houses, but it is difficult for girls.
He also laid stress upon construction of toilets in every educational institution.
Currently, a total of 6.15 lakh students are studying in all primary schools of the state.
