Melbourne : Prakash Amritraj’s dream of making it to the main draw of a Grand Slam were dashed as he went down to Denis Gremulmayr of Germany in straight sets in the final qualifying round of the Australian Open here Sunday.
Prakash, who was just one match away from entering the main draw, did not look at his best against Gremulmayr who easily pocketed the match and a main-draw berth with a 2-6, 4-6 win.
Prakash, ranked 278th, had raised his chances of entering the main draw of the first Grand Slam of the year by defeating local challenger Bernard Tomic 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
United States-based Rajeev Ram of Indian origin entered the men’s singles main draw, defeating Danai Udomchoke 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 in the final round.
