SMA Kazmi, former Advocate General, UP dies in road accident, condolence meeting held at Aligarh

Aligarh/Allahabad: SMA Kazmi, the former Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh and senior advocate of the Allahabad High Court – known for his selfless work for terror victims and pleading their case free of cost – dies in a road accident.

Kazmi, who was travelling from Allahabad to Lucknow for appearing in a case, died in the road accident near Kunda in Pratapgarh on November 25. He was also the president of United Muslim Organisation (UMO), a non-profit youth and students’ organization.

According to a report in Pioneer, the Kanpur-born Kazmi started his legal practice at the Allahabad High Court in 1980. He was appointed as the Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh in 2006 during the Samajwadi Party regime. He later joined the BSP before 2009 general election. Kazmi is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

On Monday, December 8, a condolence meeting was at Aligarh at the district UMO headquarter and attended by several social, cultural, literary and milli organizations.

UMO general secretary and president, Sir Syed Awareness Forum, Prof Shakeel Samdani recalled how in the last few years, Adv Kazmi had fully devoted himself for the community work, how he was not just “a competent and farsighted lawyer but also had great interest in literature.”

“Kazmi as the president of UMO had placed UMO at its peak and through his views he presented the Muslim view point in such a way that the difference of just and unjust, right and wrong became clearer. Kazmi had also created a history when he pleaded the case of terror victims free of cost and that too against the same government, which had appointed him as chairman, Minority Commission,” Samdani said.

Renowned Islamic scholar, Prof Saud Alam Qazmi, former Dean, Faculty of Theology, AMU; former chairman, Department Of Urdu, AMU, Prof Aquil Ahmad; renowned dental surgeon, Dr Mubeen Siddiqui; Rashid Usmani, advocate and vice president, Income Tax Bar Association; retired bank officer, Najam Abbasi; former cabinet member, AMU SU, Shoaib Ali; Nasim Shahid, president, Shams Educational Society; secretary, Sir Syed Awareness Forum, Mansoor Ilahi; Maulana Obaid Iqbal Asim; Dr Anjum Tasneem; Abdullah Samdani; Babloo Sherwani and Akbar Husain also expressed their views, a release said.

The meeting was attended among others by Maazul Haq, Haider Ali Advocate, Nafees Ahmad Advocate, Atiq Ahmad Ansari, Ayesha Samdani, Mrs Rubeena Khan, Dr Mujib Ahmad, Danish Iqbal, Abdullah Farid and Ziauddin Ansari.

The meeting came to an end after dua-e-maghfirat, the release added.
