New Delhi : Home Minister Rajnath Singh Wednesday said he will visit Assam following an attack by militants that left around 40 people dead in two districts.
“I will be going there today (Wednesday) and will analyse the situation. And we will announce whatever steps need to be taken,” Singh told the media.
“I will be leaving around 4 p.m.,” he said. Singh will be accompanied by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.
On Tuesday, some 40 villagers were killed after an anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) fired indiscriminately at Kokrajhar and Sonitpur areas.
Rijiju added: “The security forces are already doing their job. Assam is requesting 50 extra companies of central forces which we will mobilise. It will be immediately done.
“It is very unfortunate this kind of violence has taken place… If we have to develop the northeast, peace must prevail,” he said.
