Ranchi : Senior police officials in Jharkhand are without their salaries for the last two months due to non-availability of funds.
The officers include state police chief V.D. Ram, additional director general of police and other high-ranking officials.
The budgetary provisions by the finance department for police lasted till November and as such salaries for the month of November and December have not been released, according to sources.
“In the current financial year the finance department drastically cut the budget of the police department that caused fund crunch. The department had reduced around Rs.200 crores (two billion) for the present financial year,” said an official in the police headquarters.
The police department had been allocated Rs.500 million in the supplementary budget passed in December month. However, according to sources, Governor Syed Sibte Razi is yet to sign the files to clear the supplementary budget.
“The issue of salary will be resolved in two-three days,” said R.K. Mallik, spokesperson of Jharkhand police.
