New Delhi : An alleged informer of Pakistan's spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was arrested here while sending secret information of Indian armed forces to Pakistan via a man who was about to leave for that country, police revealed Thursday.
Sleuths of the Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Insaf Ali, 26, from old Delhi railway station in north Delhi Wednesday night before he handed over the secret security documents to a passenger, who was about to board the Samjhauta Express peace train that runs between India and Pakistan.
Police also recovered an envelope containing some documents from the accused.
Ali, a native of Pali in Rajasthan, had earlier delivered secret information of Indian security forces to the ISI and was also involved in recruiting people for the agency here, police said.
The accused, who used to work as a labourer in a cloth factory in Pali, revealed that he had come to contact with people involved in lucrative business of trans-border smuggling of goods through Samjhauta Express train some time back.
Following his links with smugglers, Ali arranged a passport and visited to Pakistan by Samjhauta Express last year. During his stay in Pakistani city of Hyderabad, he made contacts with one ISI officer Shoiab Hasan who lured him to work for their agency in lieu of money, police said.
During his short stay in Hyderabad, Ali was imparted a week-long training about stealing information about the Indian Army and the Border Security Force, besides the method of writing messages in Roman script.
According to the police, Ali was assigned the responsibility of covering the activities of armed forces in Jodhpur area.
"We are conducting joint interrogation with intelligence officials and raids are being conducted at various places to nab Ali's other associates in Delhi and Rajasthan," Joint Commissioner of Police Karnal Singh said.
