New Delhi : From requests of ensuring a good career for their children to that of meeting President Pranab Mukherjee, the AAP headquarters was Wednesday flooded with supporters who wanted Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister-designate, to address their woes, solve their problems and meet their aspirations.
“We voted for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and now it becomes their responsibility to address our problems. I am here to request Kejriwal to take action against a coaching institute that duped me of Rs.35,000,” 39-year-old Kumari Vandana told IANS.
Vandana said that despite her son taking classes from the institute, he “failed his examination because they never completed the syllabus on time”.
“I want Kejriwal to ensure that either my money is returned or my child’s future is secured,” she said.
Like Vandana, many other supporters thronged the party office in East Patel Nagar which still wore a celebratory look — a day after the party won 67 of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly polls.
With slogans like “Arvind Kejriwal zindabad” and “Paanch saal Kejriwal” reverberating, jubilant supporters and volunteers – old and young alike – waved party flags adorning the trademark AAP cap.
While many came with problems pertaining to water and electricity, 55-year-old Ajlan Shah hoped Kejriwal would help him meet President Mukherjee.
“I want to meet the president and put forth my grievances to him. And I have come to Kejriwal because he can help me get an appointment,” Shah, who was dressed like a sage, told IANS.
Many supporters, including members of autorickshaw and e-rickshaw unions, also came to the AAP office with boxes of sweets.
“I am here to extend support to the party. It is only Kejriwal who raised his voice in our favour. We have to help the party, so that it can help all of us,” Badrinath, a member of an e-rickshaw union, told IANS.
Agreed Issmeet Singh, a student, who told IANS that along with his friends, he joined the campaigning whenever he got free time from his classes.
Many supporters also got themselves clicked with the party posters outside the headquarters in the middle class neighbourhood.
Most of the complainants were asked by AAP volunteers to come to the Delhi Secretariat after Feb 16, where their problems would be heard.
Many of them wanted to know more about the oath-taking ceremony so that they could come and join the historic moment.
