Dubai: Indian Cultural Society, Karnataka chapter, an NRI wing of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), conducted a symposium on ‘Present Indian Political Scenario and Alternative Politics’ here with Elyas Muhammad Thumbe, national working committee member of Social Democratic Party of India as the main speaker.
Nasir Kaaraje, president of Indian Cultural Society, Karnataka chapter, UAE, inaugurated the programme held on February 20 at Jordanian Club, Dubai. Thumbe presented the account of the activities of the Indian Cultural Society, a release said here.
He welcomed the judgment of the Supreme Court which enables the voting power to NRIs, and urged the NRIs to verify their names are entered in the voters list in respective areas back in India.
Hassan, president of the Indian Cultural Society UAE, presented a memento to the chief guest Thumbe.
Thumbe said Indian citizen should unite irrespective of cast creed and color to strengthen the democracy and secularism. “The communal parties are gaining power through polarizing the voters communally. The fascist forces are disrupting the secular fabric of the nation by spreading hate among the religion. The government is least bothered to curb the communal encounters of the fanatic fascist groups. An alternative political solution is needed to tackle the situation and to bring the development to all strata of people as the people in India have lost trust on major parties,” he said.
He said SDPI is the best choice of the people as an alternate political party for the development of the minorities, backward communities and deprived sections of our country. “The party is striving to realize its dream of a country with ‘Freedom from fear’ and ‘Freedom from hunger’.”
Munavvar, general secretary, Indian Cultural Society, UAE; Razak Shabaan Uchila, vice president, Karnataka chapter; Nilam, president, Tamil Nadu chapter; Hameed Savanoor, Ashfak Mysore and Abbas Bantwal, members of executive council, Karnataka chapter, were also present on the dias.
Mohammad Ali Muloor, president, Indian Cultural Society Deira, welcomed the guests and gathering. IrfaanYermal compered the programme and Arif Makikeri, general secretary of Deira division, proposed the vote of thanks.
