New Delhi : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested him for financial help for her debt-ridden state.
Speaking to reporters here soon after meeting the prime minister, Banerjee said Modi gave her a patient hearing and assured her that the matter would be looked into.
“The prime minister has assured me that the central government would look into the issue and see how Bengal can be helped,” she said, adding that the present financial mess was created by the previous regime and her government was trying its best to improve the situation.
Despite the state being in debt it has shown financial discipline, Modi told her, she said.
This was Banerjee’s first meeting with Modi since he took over as prime minister.
