Four arrested for alleged links to Paris gunman

Paris: French police have arrested four people, including a policewoman, suspected of being linked to the gunman who killed four people in a Jewish supermarket in Paris in January.

A French policewoman was among the four people taken into custody, CNN reported on Monday citing the police.

The arrested policewoman worked at the Fort de Rosny-sous-Bois, northeast of Paris, said the spokesman for a Paris prosecutor.

Fort de Rosny-sous-Bois was the location of an important intelligence centre, media reports said.

On January 9, Amedy Coulibaly killed four people in a Jewish grocery store before being shot dead by the police. He is believed to have killed a policewoman a day before.

His attacks came after two Islamist gunmen attacked the office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which had been controversial for its unfavourable portrayals of Prophet Muhammad. The attack on Charlie Hebdo left 12 people dead. The two gunmen were killed later by the police.

France has been under a heightened state of alert since those terrorist attacks in January.

Since those attacks, European nations have carried out raids on suspected terrorist cells with links to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation in Syria.
