Kozhikode: Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state president, has called for active participation of the youngsters in charity activities.
“The society is in dire need of the youngsters as their potential can uplift the marginalised society,” Thangal said while inaugurating a renovated cancer ward at the Kozhikode Government Medical College on Monday.
The ward was renovated through the Society for Human Aid Development and Empowerment (SHADE) scheme, being initiated by the Muslim Youth League (MYL) state committee as part of the Ideal Youth Core programme.
Urging for a healthier change in the mindset of the political parties, the IUML president said it is the need of the hour to engage in the human welfare activities.
Hailing SHADE, Thangal said it has emerged as an emulative scheme for the youth organisations by extending relief to the marginalised sector across the state.
MYL state president P M Sadiqali said Rs eight lakh was spent to meet the expenses of the renovation.
The outdated beds with the ward were replaced with the modern folding type beds and a television and cooler were installed in the ward. “Though they deserve the most advanced care, the cancer patients are often left to suffer owing to various reasons. Collective efforts can uplift the medical college, which is reeling under various inadequacies,” Sadiqali said.
Sadiqali said the MYL, using the potential of the Ideal Youth Core volunteers, was all set to extend all possible support to the ailing patients in the hospital. IUML state general secretary KPA Majeed, treasurer PKK Bava, secretary TPM Sahir and district president Ummer Pandikashala and MYL state general secretary C K Zubair and medical college principal Dr C Raveendran also attended.
