New Delhi: Civil Society Organisations, leaders from various political parties and a number of students’ groups would organise a joint dharna demonstration – Zulmaton Ke Daur Main – at Janar Mantar on Thursday.
Over 80 organisations and mass organisations of secular rights are likely to participate in the programme that will seek to expose the assault on democratic and secular rights during the 300 days of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. The speakers will include civil society and secular political parties, victims, artists and intellectuals.
“During this period, the incidents of communal violence and the intimidation of the religious minorities has gone up. The economic agenda is being tuned for the benefit of Corporate houses. The plight of farmers, dalits and Adivasis is worsening by the day. In Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and other states, the terror, physical violence and social ostracizing of Dalit and tribal Christians, in particular, continues unabated,” said Shabnam Hashmi, an activist associated with Anhad, one of the CSOs organizing the Zulmaton Ke Daur Main.
Political leaders, activists and social/community leaders such as Ajay Makan, Ali Anwar, Amarjit Kaur, Annie Raja, Apoorvanand, Brinda Karat, Colin Gonsalves, Dharmvir Gandhi, Digvijay Singh, Jagmati Sangwan, John Dayal, KC Tyagi, Kavita Krishnan, Kunwar Danish, Mohammad Salim, Navaid Hamid, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Rajiv Dimri, Ram Puniyani, Rev Vijayesh Lal, Sahba Farooqi,
Seema Mustafa, Siddarth Vardarajan, Sitaram Yechury, Syeda Hamid, Vrinda Grover and Yugal Kishore Shastri have confirmed participation at the event.
