“We are going to write to the Centre to probe (by the CBI) the incident on March 5, where a mob broke into the Central Jail in Dimapur and killed a rape accused,” he said.

On March 5, an irate mob broke the gate of the jail and forcibly took out a rape accused, who had been lodged in the jail. The mob then paraded him naked and then lynched him.

The state government has so far arrested 55 people for their alleged involvement in the lynching of Syed Farid Khan, who hailed from neighbouring Assam.

Earlier, the state government launched a judicial probe into the incident.
