​NCM member Capt Praveen Davar reviews minority welfare schemes in Manipur

The importance and urgency of the modernization of madrasas and promotion of Urdu language was highlighted during the review meeting.

Imphal: During his three day visit here, Capt Praveen Davar, member of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) and member in-charge of Manipur, reviewed the implementation of the PM’s New 15-Point Programme for the welfare of the minorities and the Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) in the state.

Davar was here in Manipur from April 11 to 13. He assessed the status and problems of the implementation of PM’s 15-Point Programme and MsDP at a review meeting held on April 11 at the Manipur Secretariat. The meeting was attended by officials of various departments, which included Additional Director General of Police, Principal Secretaries and Deputy Commissioners.

During the review of the progress in the implementation of the various schemes under the PM’s New 15-Point Programme for minorities as well as MsDP, Davar discussed the issues faced in the implementation of the different schemes, as per the information given by the Link Commissioner of the Department of Minorities and Other Backward Classes (MOBC).

The importance and urgency of the modernization of madrasas and promotion of Urdu language was highlighted during the discussion, the Link Commissioner informed.

Davar met leaders and representatives of different minority communities at a meeting held on April 12.

Apart from the two main schemes/programmes taken up by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, he also discussed the issues raised by members of different minority communities present at the meeting.

These included issues related to the implementation of the Madrasa Modernization Programme in the state, reservation policy for the Muslims, the findings of the Muslim population in the state in the Census 2011, instances of irregularities in the fund allocation of MsDP, etc.

Proposals were also made for opening of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in the Muslim concentrated districts, implementation of the schemes of National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) in the State, special focus on minority institutions for higher education, proper monitoring of the implementation of the different schemes, etc.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad Amin Shah, the Parliamentary Secretary (MOBC); Dr Maneruddin Sheikh, former speaker; Mohammad Salauddin Khan, project director of MOBEDS, Mohammad Hakim Shah, secretary of Manipur State Minorities Commission and Mohammad Nizamuddin, executive officer of Waqf Board, Manipur, among others.

Later in the evening, Davar met Chief Minister O Ibobi and discussed some of the issues related to the development of the minorities in the state.
