Tehran : Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday called on the international community to condemn the Saudi-led coalition airstrikes in Yemen and to help in halting the aggression, which he termed as “senseless”.
Rouhani made the call before leaving Tehran for Indonesia to attend an Asia-Africa meeting, Press TV reported.
Rouhani criticised the coalition’s attacks against Yemen as “senseless”, calling for talks among different Yemeni groups to resolve the Arab country’s crisis.
“Destroying the infrastructure of an impoverished country and killing children, women and men make no sense,” Rouhani said.
On Monday, at least 60 people were killed and 49 others wounded in Yemen’s capital Sanaa in one of the fiercest air raids by Saudi-led coalition forces that began more than three weeks ago.
The Iranian leader called for an immediate ceasefire in the Arab country, stressing that military intervention in Yemen will not lead to anywhere and that only dialogue among different political groups can put an end to its crisis.
Saudi Arabia and its regional allies allege that Tehran was sending weapons to the Yemen’s Shia Houthi militant group, claims Iran strongly denies.
