Shillong : Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will chair the first regional consultation meeting of the sub group of chief ministers on skill development on May 11 here, an official said on Saturday.
The chief ministers of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Tripura and Tamil Nadu — who are members of the sub group — besides officials of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog will also attend the meeting.
The members will examine private sector participation in skill development and suggest ways for improved partnership of the private sector in curriculum development, delivery mechanism, pedagogy, certification, trainer attachment, apprenticeship training and financing.
The chief ministers are expected to propose measures to expand outreach of skill programmes, particularly in demographically advantageous states and recommend measures for dealing with shortage of trainers and instructors and for mobilising panchayats, municipalities and civil society groups as also the railways and armed forces to participate in these efforts.
The sub group of chief ministers on skill development was constituted by the governing council of the NITI Aayog in February to address issues pertaining to human resources, especially youth and work on scientific methods on moving towards creating a pool of skilled manpower.
