Berlin : German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière called for differentiation between extremists who exploit Islam in their terrorist acts and the innocent Muslims living in peace in Western societies and are involved in various peaceful activities, according to Germany’s Deutsche Welle (DW) channel.
“The West should not forget that Muslims were the first victims of the terrorist organizations, and we have to prevent the exploitation of Islamic faith in these terrorist acts through strengthening unity among various communities within Western societies,” Maizière said.
The German minister’s appeal came during his speech on the sidelines of the 12th conference of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Berlin, in which a number of senior officials from Britain, Belgium and Denmark participated.
