Srinagar: Even as several villages in Kulgam district of South Kashmir have submerged in flood waters, the department of Irrigation and Flood Control on Wednesday night sounded alarm in south and central Kashmir after water level in the Jhelum crossed 18 feet mark at Sangam following incessant rains since Wednesday morning.

Mir Jaffar, the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department, said the gauge at Sagam crossed 18 feet mark at 9pm.
“The habitation residing along the river embankment / Nallah and low lying areas of south and central Kashmir are advised to remain vigilant,” the Chief Engineer Irrigation told to local news agency.
The Kashmir valley had witnessed devastating floods last September 2014 when valley remained crippled for months. The non-repaired embankments alongside Jehlum which were damaged in September floods are playing devil as flood threat looms high even after moderate rainfall in the valley.
