Pakistan, Afghanistan to increase flights

Rawalpindi : Pakistan and Afghanistan on Wednesday signed an agreement to increase the number of flights and to allow private companies to begin operations, the officials said.

Both sides agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to allow the designated airlines of the two countries to enhance the existing three weekly frequencies to ten weekly frequencies with a total of 1000 passengers per week in each direction with type of aircraft not exceeding the capacity of B-737 or equivalent, an official statement said.

Pakistan delegation granted Open Sky for Passenger & Cargo Operations to/from Gwadar International Airport in Balochisan province to the designated airlines of Afghanistan and agreed to provide a list of training courses also with relevant details to the Afghan side, through diplomatic channels.

The MoU, would provide an opportunity to the businessmen of the two sides to enhance trade between the two countries, the statement said.

“It would also provide an opportunity for furtherance of our relations in different spheres of life”.

The agreement was inked in the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (ASA) talks held in the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi.
