Patna: Twenty four newly elected legislators on Monday took oath as members of the Bihar legislative council.
All the 24 newly elected members — including jailed independent member Ritlal Yadav — were administered oath of office by Chairperson Awadhesh Narayan Singh in the council premises, an official said.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, cabinet ministers and Leader of Opposition in the legislative council Sushil Kumar Modi attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Last month, the BJP-led NDA won 13 out of 24 seats in the legislative council polls.
The alliance of the ruling Janata Dal-United, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, won 10 seats, while one seat was won by an independent candidate.
The BJP won 11 seats and its ally Lok Janshakti Party won one seat, while one seat was won by an independent candidate supported by it. Another BJP ally, the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party, was routed.
