New Delhi: Trams will run in the walled city of the national capital for better connectivity, the Delhi government announced on Tuesday.
Although the government did not set any deadline, it said that trams would run in areas like Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Old Delhi and New Delhi railway station.
The Aam Aadmi Party government also said more powers would be given to Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation on the lines of the New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment Board.
“To implement its plans, the corporation will need proper powers; so we will be equipping it with powers for enforcement,” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said after visiting Chandni Chowk area in the capital.
Set up during the Congress government, the corporation was tasked with restoring the area to its Mughal-era glory.
“No work was done after the corporation was constituted. Only planning was done and the officials were paid.” he added.
