“Innovation is the lifeblood of any economy, we want to be the catalyst for the next innovative startups coming out of India,” said Javed Sikander, CEO of XtreamIT, which has its corporate headquarters in Albany, NY and R&D center in Hyderabad.

Engineering graduates from renowned colleges of Hyderabad such as Muffakham Jah College of Engineering, ACE Engineering College, KMIT, Vasavi Engineering College, Deccan Engineering College, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT, BITS Pilani, CBIT and NIT Warangal are participating in these series of three Hackathons.

Hackathon

On August 8, 2015, XtreamIT held the first hackathon at its offices at Banjara Hills here. “We want Hyderabad to be the incubation centre of India when it comes to technology and innovation,” said Sujai Karampuri, director, Electronics, IT E&C Ministry. He also gave an encouraging talk to about 70-odd participants.

“At XtreamIT, we are nurturing ideas and mentoring top talent to address the unique challenges of today’s world,” said Mirza Baig, EVP of Business Development at XtreamIT. “These hackathons are our way of helping the young budding entrepreneurs realize their full potential,” added Mirza. Both Javed and Mirza are ex-Microsoft leaders who relocated back to India after two decades of experience in the United States of America, a release from the company said.

The ideas that were created at the hackathons during the first session were quite compelling. One of the teams led by Aarshad Devani from Muffakham Jah Engineering College was able to create a peer to peer solution or sharing what is playing on one computer screen with hundreds of other screens. Such a technology could become the backbone of a virtual movie watching application. A team from Ace Engineering led by Karthik Pendylla created an image recognition solution that can help identify similarities in pictures. Such a technology could be used to find homes that you like across remote towns or even diagnose skin diseases.

“This hackathon was an eye opener, XtreamIT gave us the environment to come together, get our creative juices flowing and build something that has a huge potential,” said Aarshad Devani, whose team from Muffakham Jah Engineering College won the competition. “This was an exciting experience, we loved the competition, the high energy environment and the guidance provided by XtreamIT team,” said Srikanth V, whose team from ACE Engineering College were the runners up.

“I dream of a day when India will be the innovation capital of the world, looking at the enthusiasm and the talent in the hall today, I am convinced that day is not far,” said Javed Sikander.

The next hackathon will be held on Sunday August 16 at the XtreamIT premises in Banjara Hills.
