New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday spoke to Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh to take stock of the situation in the state after violence in Churachandpur district left at least six people dead.
“Spoke to Manipur CM Ibobi Singh regarding the incidents of violence in Churachandpur area. Centre is closely monitoring the situation,” the minister tweeted.
In Manipur, violence erupted on Monday evening following the government’s adoption of three landmark bills. The bills were unanimously passed in the assembly on Monday after the ruling Congress signed an agreement with the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System on August 25 to enact three laws to protect the interest of the indigenous people.
At least six people have died in clashes with police in the district. While two people were killed in police firing on Tuesday, four bodies were found on Monday.
