New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday appealed to students of Delhi University to start honest politics in the coming Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls.
Interacting with students at the Aam Aadmi Party’s song and dance show “DURock” at Talkatora indoor stadium, Kejriwal said: “People of Delhi gave us a historic mandate by giving us 67 out of 70 seats. Delhi people have started honest politics in this country. We have started a trend of clean politics at the state level, now it is your responsibility to start honest student politics in the Delhi University elections.”
“We all know how corruption and muscle power is there in student politics. Everyone know crores of rupees are spent during students’ union elections. But I have full faith that the beginning of clean and honest student politics will start from Delhi University,” he said.
The AAP organised the rock concert to woo freshers of Delhi University before the students’ union elections.
Kejriwal further said: “We will make Delhi the first free Wi-Fi zone in the country. At first, we will provide this facility in colleges of Delhi University. For this, we are making constant efforts.”
Celebrities like Vishal Dadlani, Raghu Ram, Jasleen Royal and Shilpa Rao, and music band Astitva performed at the event.
The rock concert was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP’s Delhi convener Dilip Pandey.
Kejriwal’s address held significance as the AAP’s student wing CYSS is making its debut in the DUSU polls slated to be held on September 11.
Kejriwal further said: “The AAP government’s education loan scheme to students of Delhi will be implemented from this month. The first cheques in this connection will be distributed on September 8.”
“Around 70 percent corruption has been abolished. We promise to make Delhi the first corruption free state of the country. Similarly, we will bring Delhi University among the top 100 universities of the world,” he said.
The CYSS has fielded Garima Rana, Rahul Raj Aryan, Kuldeep Bidhuri and Hitanshi Chauhan for the DUSU polls. All four candidates also interacted with the students.
