Mumbai: The brutal incidence of burning Dalit children and the irresponsible remarks of Union Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh have led to agitations and sharp reactions from democratic groups in Nanded, Maharashtra, who have sought to file a written complaint at a local police station against the Minister.
In his statement regarding burning of two Dalit kids, the Minister had remarked that the Centre cannot be blamed if somebody throws a stone at a dog. This led to the huge agitation from Dalit organisations and individuals too.
Rahul Pradhan of Yuva Panther and Sanghratna Niwadange of National SC, ST, OBC students and Youth Front were among the people that sought action against Singh.“V. K. Singh is a Minister and making unconstitutional statements doesn’t suit him. He has shown that such type of attitude is expressed by Manuwadi people. The action must be taken with regard to this. Otherwise, entire Dalit community would lose the faith over government,” said Niwadange.
The letter of complaint says, “Indian Constitution has given equal rights to all its citizen and safety of life and dignity hence when this atrocity of burning Dalit kids taken place, we thought that government would certainly take strict action and arrest culprits but today, after reading the opinion of V. K. Singh, India’s Union Minster of State for External Affairs, we felt humiliated and we lost faith over government”.
