Government will ensure no homeless dies of cold: Kejriwal

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said his government is committed to ensuring that no homeless dies of cold while sleeping on the roadside in the national capital.

While inaugurating two night shelters at Geeta Ghat locality near ISBT, Kashmere Gate, Kejriwal said: “This year we are committed to ensure no one dies of cold while sleeping on roadside. If it happens, it would be an embarrassment to the government,” Kejriwal.

“We have made elaborate arrangements to provide shelter to homeless people in Delhi. There are 198 night shelters across the city and we have also set up 40 additional tents to accommodate around 19,000 people.”

He said the Delhi government and the society would have to work together to make it possible that no one dies due to cold.

Kejriwal a few days ago also directed officials of various departments to ensure availability of all the basic amenities at the night shelters.

Kejriwal also launched “Rain Basera” mobile application and appealed to the masses to help the government by sending the picture of any destitute that is sleeping in the open, to the app.

“We have dedicated some mobile vans which will pick up such destitute and bring him/her to the nearest night shelter,” Kejriwal added.
