New Delhi : The Delhi High on Friday posted for January 5 a plea seeking direction to freeze the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) “lotus” election symbol.
A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw referred the matter to another bench after the petitioner in person started his arguments in Hindi.
The plea, contending that lotus represents the “manifestation of God” and is also a symbol of purity and tenderness, said its use during elections was “illegal”.
“Direct ministry of law and justice and Election Commission of India to remove lotus from list of free and unrestricted symbol of poll panel as well as from the election symbol of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in interest of national justice,” it said.
