Delhi: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, accompanied by Member of Parliament Mohammed Taslimuddin, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali along with other dignitaries today met the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at the Parliament House, New Delhi.
Highlighting the recent achievements of the Aligarh Muslim University, the Vice Chancellor informed the Prime Minister that “AMU is striving to be a leading University in the country in the field of education and research”. He said, “We are leading in the field of Nanotechnology with an objective of ushering the second green revolution in the country”.
During the meeting, Lt. Gen. Shah pointed out that AMU scientists were actively involved in the Clean Ganga and Yamuna projects and the University was also collaborating with the Ministry of Heavy Industries in harnessing solar power for automotive purposes.
The Vice Chancellor, who submitted a written memorandum to Shri Modi, highlighted the issue of “inequitable funding for AMU” compared to other Central Universities. He stressed need for immediate funding for the construction of permanent building at the three AMU Centres in Malappuram, Kerala, Murshidabad, West Bengal and Kishanganj, Bihar.
Lt. Gen. Shah also pointed out to the Prime Minister, the activities of some disgruntled elements who were engaged in spreading rumours, which were detrimental to the University and a blot on his personal honour. The Prime Minister said that the Vice Chancellor should reply, “The Prime Minister has known Lt. Gen. Shah for the last 15 years”.
Taslimuddin and Mohammed. Aslam, President of Human Chain, a philanthropic organisation, urged the Prime Minister to kindly expedite the release of funds for AMU Kishanganj Centre so that the construction projects are not affected.
Tanweer Alam, President, AMU Alumni Association of Maharashtra requested the PM to help in the establishment of AMU Centre in Maharashtra.
The PM has assured the Vice Chancellor of full financial support to AMU.
