New Delhi: Hundreds of parents came out on Sunday to express their displeasure and anger against the central government and police for their failure to find out their ‘lost’ sons or daughters. The Delhi unit of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) had taken the initiative to organize this protest rally at Jantar Mantar.
“Among several states, Delhi has the highest number of missing children in the country. One child in every 1.09 hour is lost from Delhi. Approximate 12,000 people have been reported missing from Delhi in 2015 and most of them are children,” said AIMIM leader Mohd Mursaleen.
He said that they organised the protest against Delhi Police and central government for their careless and delayed work on the complaints of lost children and human trafficking and demanded government intervention in this matter.
“The only way we can get our kids back is if the government pressurises the investigating agencies. Or we are tired of requesting the police. We have lost all our ways,” said a mother who participated in the rally.
The protesters, under the AIMIM banner, also submitted a memorandum to union home minister Rajnath Singh and commissioner of Delhi Police demanding amendment to existing Anti-trafficking legislation and setting up of a new and separate investigative department or agency to probe the cases. They also demanded that Delhi should be covered with CCTV cameras so that future of India can be protected.
“The lost children might have become the future IAS, IPS officers. Future of India is in serious danger. We all have to protect them and raise our voice against this criminal offence. There are thousands of mothers who do not know where their children are. It’s time to stop being silent spectators and take steps in the right direction or else who knows if the nightmare might come knocking on our doors,” said another Delhi MIM leader Afzal Khan.
Khan alleged that the files of their cases have been closed without any investigation. Police station teams do not focus on this matter seriously.
“Thousands of parents of missing children in Delhi are still hoping that Delhi Police will find their children. Most families are too poor to search for their children themselves. Most families live for the moment when they will be reunited with their children, said a statement of AIMIM.
