UP Govt. forms committee for ensuring participation of minorities in government services

Lucknow: In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three member committee for ensuring participation of minorities in government services.

Professor Mohamd Kalim, Chairman, Agricultural Deemed University, Allahabad has been appointed as Chairman of the committee. The committee has been formed to give boost to education among the members of the minority community and give suggestions to promote education among them.

Other members of the committee are, Dr Mohammad Zafar and former MLA, Afroz Ali Khan as members and Shafqat kamal, Special secretary, Minorities welfare and Waqaf department as member secretary of the committee.

Children belonging to minority community who leave school due to monetary issues will be identified by the committee and efforts will be made to grant them re-admission in their schools. The committee will also ensure education for girls of the minority community through interaction with the local community.

Besides, commission will offer suggestions on development of minority community and ensure their employment.

Importantly, according to a research paper published in 2011 ,the position of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh both in terms of education and employment has also been dis satisfactory, where male literacy rate is 58% and female literacy rate 41%, whereas the WPR (work participation rate) 41 and 12% to male and female respectively.

Muslim have been not been able to sufficiently reap the benefit of the state intervention and grant of education.
