Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday filed her nomination papers for the West Bengal assembly elections from the Bhowanipore constituency in South Kolkata district.
A large number of supporters carrying party flags chanted slogans as Banerjee, flanked by several party leaders, undertook a road show on her way to the office of the District Election Officer, Kolkata.
Accompanied by party general secretary Subrata Bakshi, Banerjee filed her nomination papers for the six-phase West Bengal assembly polls.
Banerjee is pitted against Left Front-supported Congress nominee and former union minister Deepa Dasmunsi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Bhowanipore constituency also has in the fray Lok Janshakti Party’s Bobby Haldera — one of the two transgenders from the state to contest the polls for the first time.
