BJP MLAs gives ‘ultimatum’ to UP on Kairana exodus

New Delhi : Notwithstanding denials of any exodus of Hindus from Kairana town by the Uttar Pradesh government, BJP MLA Sangeet Som on Friday gave a 15-day ‘ultimatum’ to the state for the return of those who migrated from the town.

“We are giving an ultimatum to the state administration to bring back the people who left Kairana within 15 days, otherwise no one will be able to stop us,” Som told reporters at Sardhana village near Kairana town in Shamli district.

BJP MP Hukum Singh had earlier claimed mass exodus of Hindu families from Kairana. On June 14, he stressed that the exodus was not a communal issue but of law and order.

The BJP leader had told a TV channel that the people fled due to “threats and extortion by criminal elements belonging to a particular community”.

Meanwhile, the local administration prevented Som from entering Kairana for holding a protest march in the area.

The administration had imposed Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits assembly of four or more persons, for maintaining law and order.

“We are BJP workers and respect law and order. We are not moving ahead as Section 144 has been imposed by the administration but they will not be able to stop us if they fail to bring back the families which have migrated,” Som asserted.
