Delhi:Akhlaqur Rahman Kidwai, who served as the Governor of Bihar, West Bengal and Haryana and was a member of Rajya Sabha, was buried in the Jamia Millia Islamia graveyard in front of thousands of people with full state honours on Thursday afternoon.
His funeral was attended by prominent dignitaries like Vice President Hamid Ansari, along with a number of leaders from Congress. The entire staff of Jamia Millia along with the Vice Chancellor of the University, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of AMU also attended the prayers.
The imam of Jamia Mosque, while offering funeral prayers, talked about the important contributions made by Kidwai to the University. The University will be holding a condolence meeting in its premises on August 28.
Kidwai was born in 1920 in Baragaon village of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh and studied BA at Jamia Millia Islamia University, 1940, MSc at University of Illinois, US, 1948 and PhD at Cornell University, US, 1950.
