New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday issued notice to the Railway Board and the Delhi Government over people living in pathetic conditions near railway lines in the city’s Zakhira area.
According to the Commission, the residents were forced to live in unhygienic conditions due to negligent attitude of the authorities. Whenever efforts were initiated, the authorities do not proceed further as the Railway authorities raise their objections to it.
The Commission observed that the matter relates to a serious issue of violation of human rights of the residents in the area. The authorities concerned were required to provide basic amenities like drinking water, toilets and provision of cleanliness for the habitants.
Accordingly, the NHRC has issued notice to the Railway Board Chairman and the Chief Secretary of Delhi, calling for a detailed report in four weeks.
