Bihar: As relief work of Indian Muslim Relief & Charities (IMRC) enters its fifth day in flood-ravaged Bihar, 3,030 families have been provided with ration by its team of volunteers working in Bhagalpur and Kathiar districts.
On September 10 and 11, US-based IMRC established distribution centres at Naugachia Rajpora and Bagarpur , where thousands of families were provided with food packets which included 5 kg rice, 3 kg rice flakes, 1 kg jaggery, 1 kg pulses, biscuits and 500 ml mustard oil.
On Wednesday September 7, IMRC volunteers distributed food packets among 520 families at two centers in Amdaar and Agarpurtola village in Bhagalpur district whereas on September 8, 1,080 families were provided with food packets in Manihari, Azampur Gola villages of Katihar district taking the number of beneficiary families to 1,600.
Jamun Thakur, 71, from Naugachia, in Bhagalpur district is physically handicapped. He has no children lives alone as his wife died few years ago.
“During normal days, my neighbours bring food for me but now they are also struggling for the same. This ration given by these good people have eased my hardships. This will prove to be sufficient till everything comes back to normal in my village,” Thakur said.
Syed Abdul Najeeb, project manager of Hyderabad based Sahayata Trust, the implementation partner of IMRC, said, “The distribution of ration went smooth due to help from our local volunteers, who worked day and night to ensure that help reaches the deserving families.”
Importantly, IMRC is responding to one of the worst floods in over a decade in Bihar and initiated an immediate relief work, providing ration like and ready to eat meals to the poor and needy flood affected families.
IMRC have sanctioned an amount of Rs 33.3 lakh ($50,000) for relief work.
