Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University celebrated the 68th Republic Day with great fervor and enthusiasm on Friday, with the hoisting of tricolor national flag by the Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah at the historical Strachey Hall. He also took salami from NCC cadets.
While speaking on the occasion, Gen Shah said that Universities are known for their educational and research works. “Aligarh Muslim University’s research programs on Nanotechnology, Solar Energy and Waste water recycling are widely appreciated”, said the Vice Chancellor.
Lt. Gen. Shah said that he tried his level best to place the University on top during his tenure as Vice Chancellor which will end on May 16, 2017.
Speaking about his achievements, Lt. Gen. Shah said that AMU has constructed a number of Smart Class Rooms, Academic Block, Swimming pools, Halls of residence, roads and completed renovation of historical buildings and Playgrounds. A long awaited Cath Lab has also been established at JN Medical College.
AMU Pro Vice Chancellor Brigadier (veteran) S. Ahmad Ali was also present on the occasion. AMU Registrar Professor Javed Akhtar conducted the program while BA students Ms Alina Khan and Abdul Saboor Kidwai spoke about the significance of Republic Day.
A programme of Eco Fax Run was organized on this occasion in which winners were felicitated by AMU Vice Chancellor. Later Lt. Gen. Shah and his wife Mrs Sabeeha Simi Shah distributed fruits among the patients admitted in University’s Health Centre.
A “Mushaira” was also held at Kennedy Auditorium by Urdu Academy on the eve of the Republic Day.
