Singapore : A man of Indian origin was jailed for 44 months by a Singapore court Monday for making three hoax calls to the police claiming terrorists planned to crash an Air India plane.
"Such threats must have been intended by the perpetrator to instill fear in the hearts of those directly affected by the hoax," Judge Victor Yeo said in his ruling.
The calls by Nanda Sudhir Kumar, a 53-year-old Canadian citizen, were made last November. In each call he said terrorists planned to crash the plane, which was leaving from Singapore to New Delhi, the subordinate court heard.
Yeo said such "callous and abhorrent behaviour" would not be tolerated.
