Aligarh : Nearly 17 students of Aligarh Muslim University were awarded scholarships constituted in memory of its alumnus by their family members.
The scholarship included Satyendra Kumar Kashyap Merit Scholarship for BTech (Mechanical Engineering) which was sponsored by Deepali Kashyap, the daughter of Satyendra Kashyap who was a student of BE (Mechanical Engineering) 1962-66 batch at Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), AMU. Though he could not continue his education after BTech due to financial constraints but he joined the Department of Irrigation, Uttar Pradesh Government and retired as Superintending Engineer, Uttar Pradesh State Vigilance before breathing his last in 2010. This scholarship is given to Btech (Mechanical) topper students every year.
Another scholarship has been started by Syed Ali Jafar Rizvi in memory of his father Prof. Syed Athar Husain Rizvi. This is Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for underprivileged B Tech. and MBA students to fulfill his father’s wish of easing out financial strains of students. Prof Rizvi completed BSc. and M.Sc. in Mechanical engineering from AMU and even earned a scholarship to attend the Cambridge University in UK. He also joined AMU as faculty and later passed away in 1995.
This year, USA based AMU alumnus, Faisal Saleem, Prof. Mohammad Altamush Siddiqui (Chairperson, Department of Mechanical Engineering) and Dr. Eijaz Ahmad distributed the ‘Satyendra Kumar Kashyap Merit Scholarship’ to mechanical engineering students; while Prof. Ishtiyaq Zilli, Dr. Saboohi Nasim, Prof. Valeed Ansari, Dr. M Jahangir Warsi, Dr. Shaheer Khan (Moderator, AMU Network and Secretary AEEF), Mr. Abdul Hafeez Khan (Canada based AMU Alumnus) distributed the ‘Syed Athar Husain Rizvi Merit-cum-Means Scholarship’ to B Tech and MBA students. The scholarships were distributed during a special function organized by Aligarh Education Endowment Fund (www.aeef.us) at the Alumni Affairs Committee Office, AMU.
Presiding over the programme, Mr. Abdul Hafeez Khan pointed out that scholarships are given to deserving students and this facility should be utilized in the best ways while Dr. Shaheer Khan motivated students to work hard and excel in academics and future life.
