Washington : US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will travel to Britain next week to meet with her British counterpart, David Miliband, for talks on Iran and Iraq, according to the State Department.
Rice and Miliband will also discuss the conflict in Afghanistan during the Feb 6 meeting.
The US and Britain, along with France and Germany, have been seeking a third UN Security Council sanctions resolution to punish Iran for its failure to halt uranium enrichment.
The five permanent members of the Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia and the US – plus Germany agreed to the framework for a resolution during a meeting in Berlin earlier this month.
The resolution would mildly deepen international sanctions on Iran. China and Russia have been reluctant to come down too hard on the Islamic state for its disputed nuclear activities, which Tehran maintains are purely for meeting energy needs.
